A Last Second Chance at Writing

A Last Second Chance at Writing

A NEW ADVENTURE

This is a new adventure. One I will learn about as I go. I will make mistakes, learn from them, and forge on. Welcome to to my blog. This is my last second chance at writing.

For many years, I have been told repeatedly that I should write. It should not come as a surprise to anyone who knows me that I like to write. In fact, I have written since I was in my teens. I have several books that I have started, journals that I have kept, and a multitude of lengthy Facebook posts I have shared over the years. There is a lot I’d like to say, and I’m trying to find the best place and way to do that.

Within the past two weeks, five different people, all from different aspects of my life and all in very different conversations, have told me I need to write a book. Writing a book is a large undertaking, and not one I’m sure I’m ready for. However, it seems there is at least a minimal desire from my friends to see more of my writing. As I find myself with some free time right now, I decided to try a blog. My initial plan is one article per week about whatever experience I’m having or thinking about at the time. I have secured this domain for one year. At the end of the year, I will evaluate the success, usefulness, engagement and desire to continue.

A BLOG ABOUT MY LIFE

Last Second Chance is a blog about my life, my random thoughts, insights, and general musings.    This stems from the belief that we do not give up.

How many times in life have you encountered a situation where you ended up in the “never again” camp?   A bad relationship?  I’m never dating again!  Ok, you better buy a cat and resign yourself to spinsterhood.  Congratulations on sole control of the television remote!  A diet that didn’t “work”?  I’m never doing that again!  Fine.   Get yourself some cookies and ice cream and enjoy all the things you’ve denied yourself.   Procrastination put you behind on something?  I’m never doing that again!  Oh.  Ok.   Then start earlier next time.

You are doing it again.   It’s human nature.   You will give it a second chance.   And when that chance doesn’t turn out as expected, you’ll wait awhile and give it another chance … one last second chance.   Assuming you were not seriously injured, do not have the opportunity to try something again, or really, really learned your lesson, given the opportunity, you will give it another chance.

I’LL NEVER DO THAT AGAIN

In looking at my life, that theme is persistent.  My life is full of ongoing last second chances from the simplest to most complex of scenarios.   I’ve had bad relationships.   I’m never dating again.   I wish there was someone to date.  I even dated the same person multiple times multiple times!   My children are raised/being raised. I survived/amsurviving that!  I’ll never do that again (exaggerated sure, but you get the point).   Admittedly, raising another child was not a decision I made.  It was a life circumstance brought about by my daughter’s passing.   I am now raising my granddaughter.   Of course I’m doing that!  I procrastinated working on an assignment or studying and didn’t do as well as I’d hoped because I didn’t allow time for great effort.   I’ll never do that again.  I said that up until my last assignment in college.   I was wrong.

LAST SECOND CHANCE AT WRITING

In this endeavor I am giving writing a last second chance. I hope you will find it interesting, be engaged through comments and discussion, learn something from me, teach me something, and generally enjoy it. It’s my thoughts about my life experiences. It’s my insights, my learnings, my outlet to share all the things I think about.

I’d love to hear your thoughts and suggestions for topics. I’d love to know what last second chances you have experienced. Please share anything you’d like to. If you aren’t comfortable sharing in the comments, you can always DM me via Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/tfhornsby or contact me here!

It may take me awhile to get the hang of this blogging thing so be patient! This experience could make for a great post someday!
